RIGHT ON!: A BASIC DRAWING WORKSHOP
EMPHASIZING RIGHT HEMISPHERE TECHNIQUES
workshop [workshop]

TERRY OAKES BOURRET, Visiting Artist Saturday-Sunday, September 13-14
10:00am-4:00pm

In this weekend workshop you will learn, apply and build proficiency in such fundamental right-hemisphere techniques as one-line contour drawing, making connections, upside-down drawing, shading, and rhythm of application. Through discussion and numerous activities you will learn to use right-hemisphere information to simplify and enjoy the drawing process. Relax and have fun exploring the limitless creative potential of your brain's right hemisphere through drawing! (Note: The first weekend covers basic techniques, and the second moves into more advanced procedures. Anyone who has studied drawing with Terry before could skip the first weekend and sign up for the second one only if they wish, although refresher courses never hurt.) Open to all levels - with or without "talent." Materials list provided.

Tuition $195.00
Members $170.00

RIGHT UP YOUR ALLEY: PERSPECTIVE & PROPORTION
THE RIGHT HEMISPHERE WAY
workshop [workshop]

TERRY OAKES BOURRET, Visiting Artist Saturday-Sunday, September 20-21
10:00am-4:00pm

Have you ever come across a picturesque little lane nestled amidst the clapboard cottages of a seaside resort ... or an alley squeezed among the canyons of a big city? Have you wished you could capture their charm of a lovely interior with a few quick, deft gestures? But have you found that trying to apply "vanishing points" is an irritating and often useless technique for rendering all those quaint doorways and odd angles? Then this is the workshop for you! Learn the easy, all-natural "right" way to draw buildings, landscapes and interiors, using proven right-hemisphere techniques. You will find that tapping into your right-brain's creative abilities is a fascinating, natural approach to drawing, as you build and hone many new skills: contour drawing, sighting, proportion, anchoring and making connections. Even if you thought you never could do this, by the end of the weekend you will be drawing to amaze your friends. (Note: While this is a stand-alone weekend workshop, taking the weekend workshop "Right On!: A Basic Drawing Class Emphasizing Right-Hemisphere Techniques" would be helpful preparation for some. It is not, however, a prerequisite for this program.) Open to all levels - with or without "talent" Materials list provided.

Tuition $195
Members $170.00

OIL PASTEL workshop [workshop]

JULIA ROGOFF
Two Sundays, Nov. 30 & Dec. 7
10:00am-4:00pm

Two-day intensive workshop. Learn how to use this unique medium for the beauty of its saturated colors and its ability to combine the rigors of drawing with the atmospheric quality of paint. Day 1: Working from still life, we will explore structural issues of composition: perspective, dramatic angles of view, negative shape, proportion, pattern, and flat shapes. Day 2: Working from landscape motifs (outdoors, weather permitting, or indoors from black and white photos), we will explore how to use color to translate issues of light/shade, areas of high contrast vs. quiet, low chroma areas, and how to create dramatic statements in color juxtaposition. Both days will include progressive abstraction from the motif, with increasing concentration on the potential of the medium itself. This is also a great traveling medium, lightweight and great for small, intense, outdoors work. Materials: Box of Oil Pastels (48 colors or more - many brands are good, but I especially recommend Holbein's 'Academic Oil Pastel set of 48', available online through www.dickblick.com); pad of Heavy Duty Watercolor Paper (140 lb.), size approx. 10x14"or a little larger, (cold press, with medium grain), white artist's tape, single-edge razorblade, pencil and eraser; folding outdoors stool; we will make a small 'viewfinder' on the first day out of heavy paper.

Tuition $198.00
Members $173.00
