FELTED FABRIC: FEATHERWEIGHT
SCARVES AND BAGS [workshop]
LYNN OCONE, Visiting Artist
Saturday-Sunday, September 27-28
10:00am-4:00pm
Day 1: Learn the contemporary nuno-felting technique in which wisps of merino wool, silk, mohair locks, and other fiber embellishments are felted into a base of sheer silk gauze. The resulting felt is lightweight and drapes beautifully, making it suitable for garments and interiors (window and wall panels). You will explore thickness, texture, and surface design, and by day's end, create a featherweight felt scarf of your own design. Day 2: Building on basic nuno-felting techniques practiced the prior day, learn how to nuno felt in three dimensions, and how to create denser reversible nuno fabrics. Also discover fabric collage and laminating techniques using wool as the "glue." You will felt either a small, drawstring gift bag (or evening purse), table runner, or piece of decorative fabric (suitable for a wall hanging or sewing project). Fee payable with tuition $25.00 Materials list provided.
Tuition $198.00

NEEDLE FELTING [workshop]
LANETTE BARBER
Saturday, October 25
10:00am-5:00pm
If you have busy hands that just 'need' to make things and love color and fiber you will love this method of felting. It requires very little equipment and space and can be mastered easily. Felt is considered the first fabric and for centuries has been made from sheep's wool or animal fur. When the fibers are exposed to hot moisture, agitation, soap, and muscle power it forms felt. During industrial times it was discovered that this could also be accomplished with a barbed needle and is often referred to as 'dry felting'. This class is designed to introduce the student to this method by example and hands on, making small forms. The student will go home with the principle of needle felting, their forms and the tools to continue at home. Bring a friend, a sandwich (or go out for one) and have a productive and fun day together. Fee payable with tuition $25.00
