INTRODUCTION TO ELECTROFORMING [workshop]
LANETTE BARBER
Saturday-Sunday, November 8-9
9:30am-5:30pm
This workshop will introduce electroforming on a small scale to the glass, ceramic and metals artist. Electroforming is not a new concept and is big in manufacturing but is a newer concept for the artist's point of view. In a most basic explanation, a mold or mandrel is placed in a bath of chemicals and water while an electrical current is passed through it attaching particles of metal. The length of time in the bath and the power of the charge will determine the thickness of the metal on the final product. If the item is not conductive it can be painted with a conductive medium. One can also create a mold made from wax which is melted out after a suitable thickness of metal is built up. It is suggested that the student bring an item suitable to electroform for the first day of class and wax will be provided for mold making. Letters will go out to students with further explanations. Items will be available for purchase such as: rectifiers, beads, and extra wax. Fee payable to instructor $45.00
