We will explore several different nonconventional techniques that can be applied in watercolor painting. Some of the different techniques we will explore will be wet on wet, lifting, layering, color dropping, bleaching, blotting, texturing, salting, collaging and masking. MIXING & BLENDING PAINT

JULIA ROGOFF
Two Sundays, October 26 & November 2
10:00am-4:00pm

For painters wanting to improve their handling of color: Have you ever wanted to set aside some time and just learn to mix and blend and handle your color better, on its own terms? This is your chance! Take this intensive 2-day workshop, and come prepared to work hard and fast, with lots of risk-taking, as we explore the full power of color to create a dynamic language of its own. Each day will start with a series of structured blending exercises, exploring how to mix families of colors, controlling a range of warm/cool, dull/intense, and light/dark colors. We will also work in series, executing a range of versions of a small simple still life using one object, as we experiment with different approaches in color depiction and space: classical time-of-day gradations emphasizing light vs. shade and traditional modeling of form; 'impressionist' optical mixing and pointillism; expressionistic mark-making and textures; and finally, manipulation of color adjacencies and simultaneous contrast, all in order to emphasize the starring role of color itself. Oil paint will be our main medium (or acrylics, if necessary), but on day two we will add 'mixed media": oil pastels /oil stick, ink or watercolor, collage, and paint on paper. Please come with colors as listed on the materials list. Materials list provided.

Tuition $203.00
Members $178.00
