“Is Comic Book Art Really ‘Fine’ Art ?”
Often we evaluate art in terms of style and technique. However, one of the most important aspects of fine art is its ability to tell a story and convey feelings. Comic books and graphic novels do both in frame after frame within a genre much larger than the funny papers or comics sold on a newsstand. This exhibition will include comic books and graphic novels renowned for their social commentary as well as more familiar examples. Ron Garney, a highly acclaimed comic book artist (Spiderman and Marvell Civil War) has been invited to speak opening night.
Guest Curator: Chris Uminga
