New Classes for Adult Beginners at Guilford Art Center this Spring
Try your hand at drawing or painting, or both!
Guilford Art Center announces new classes this Spring, to introduce adults to some visual arts basics. "Drawing 101 & Develop Your Drawing", "Start Drawing & Keep on Drawing" and "A Drawing & Painting Sampler" will present basics techniques and concepts to students who may be picking up a pencil or brush for the very first time.
"We strive to provide 'something for everybody,' in terms of skill levels, at the Center," says Program Director Maureen Belden. "Many of our classes are open to students of all levels, since our instructors are adept at teaching to a range of abilities, and our class sizes are small. But we wanted to reach folks who may be shy about trying their hand, but are eager to take that first step with a group of fellow 'newbies.'" Different sections of the drawing classes are being offered in the daytime and in the evening, to best accommodate students' schedules.
DRAWING 101 with instructor Dolores Marchese, is offered on five Wednesdays, beginning March 31, from 1 to 3pm. Students will learn about composition, perspective, scale, line, value and texture. DEVELOP YOUR DRAWING is the next class in the series, also taught by Marchese, and offered on five Wednesdays, beginning May 5, from 1 to 3pm. Continuing drawing students, and those who have completed Drawing 101, can expand their skills and explore value, space composition and concept, as well as different drawing styles. Demonstrations and individual attention will be given to all. Tuition for each class: $100; members $90.
START DRAWING with instructor David Ferreira, is offered on five Thursdays, beginning April 1, from 6:30-8:30pm. "Anyone can learn to draw with the proper training," says Ferreira. Students will learn fundamentals through a series of informative exercises. This is a great class for beginners and anyone interested in brushing up on their drawing fundamentals. KEEP ON DRAWING, Ferreira's subsequent class, is offered on five Thursdays, beginning May 6, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Students will continue the process of learning to draw, including experimenting with alternate wet, dry, and color media, collage, and other techniques. Tuition for each class: $100; members $90.
A DRAWING & PAINTING SAMPLER, with Christopher Uminga, is offered on ten Wednesdays, beginning March 31, from 9:30 am to 12:30pm, and will teach elements of basic drawing with painting in mind. Students will learn basic drawing techniques, such as line drawing, composition, perspective, shading and lighting, then learn to paint with acrylics. Each week we will cover a different topic and different technique of painting, all the while taking those drawing lessons and applying them to our paintings. Tuition: $240; members $216.
