SummerArt MOrning Schedule

June 25 - June 29
TIME TRAVELER

What if you could travel back in time or journey into the future? Begin your adventure here! Draw animals on cave walls, paint the ceiling in the style of Michaelangelo. Draw a picture of what you would look like 50 years from now, design a new world, invent a new cereal and box cover. Before week's end you will have made a time capsule! Be sure to bring your imagination!

July 2 - July 6
MEDIEVAL ART

Return to a magical time of kings and castles, knights and unicorns, minstrels and jesters. You will design a family coat of arms and a "stained glass" window, tell a story in your "tapestry", create a clay gargoyle and a firebreathing dragon. Make a costume for the medieval masquerade which concludes our week. (no class on 7/4)

July 9 - July 13
YOU ARE THE ARTIST!

Learn what it meant to be an apprentice during the Renaissance! Study the great masters to learn fundamental principles of color, perspective, shading and the importance of observational skills to create a masterpiece each day using pencils, paint, clay and other materials. Finish the week with a gallery exhibit on Friday.

July 16 - July 20
ECO ART

Whether we are looking at the natural patterns around us, seeing a landscape or using found objects in nature to create art, we are influenced by our physical universe. We'll take a nature art walk, paint plein en aire, make a bird feeder and create a nature puzzle. At week's end we will have finished our eco earth story board!

July 23 - July 27
CONSTELLATIONS, COMETS & PLANETS: ART IN SPACE

The sky has always been fascinating! Our space ship will explore and inspire us to create black holes, interesting patterns of the stars in our July sky and add a new planet to our solar system. Make a cosmic mobile, design and build a space ship and create a space creature!

July 30 - August 3
DISCOVER IBERIA! SPAIN AND PORTUGAL

Catch flight GAC 757 to the Iberian peninsula of Spain and Portugal and visit their diverse people and art. Our itinerary includes recreation of the Spanish Armada, decorative "leather" book covers and colorful ceramic pottery. Children will also draw and paint in the style of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. We complete our tour by creating a Portuguese azulejo tile.

August 6 - August 10
THE ART OF MANY ISLANDS: POLYNESIA

From the Greek word meaning "many islands", Polynesia is a large grouping of over 1,000 islands in the central and southern Pacific Ocean. Take a tropical break with us to make a traditional tapa cloth, recreate the muari stone figures from Easter Island, weave string figures and travel to Paul Gaugin's idyllic Tahitian paradise.

August 13 - August 17
ART ON THE MOVE!!!

From kites to kinetic art, get ready to make something move! The motion may be physical, as in kinetic sculpture or the mobiles of Alexander Calder, or implied, as in the Op art paintings of Bridget Riley. Whether its wind powered or moved by you, we'll see art in motion!
