June 18 - July 24, 2010
Contemporary ceramic sculpture takes many forms, and the exhibition features a variety of approaches and techniques, illustrating the ways in which artists have built upon and transformed the primarily utilitarian roots of the medium. All of the artists selected work in ceramic media, although some of them include materials and strategies outside normal ceramic traditions. This is increasingly an aspect of contemporary ceramic practice that warrants attention.
My selection of the work has been intuitive. One can wonder and contemplate interesting justifications for bringing this work together. I can only hope that something special and unexpected will be revealed by this collection of work, even though we may think that we already know the territory.
I am pleased and honored to be given the opportunity to present this work as juror of the exhibition.
