Highlighting contemporary works by three popular, award-winning
faculty members of the Guilford Art Center School, who have
inspired
and directed countless students in their artistic endeavors.

Lanette
Barber, Metalsmith & Sculptor
Metals and other media are juxtaposed to create a visual
dialogue steeped in emotion and expressed with texture,
form and color. Barber holds a BFA in Metals from the
State University of New York and a BS from Quinnipiac
University. She has taught at Brookfield Craft Center,
Wesleyan Potters, Creative Arts Workshop and the State
of Connecticut Visiting Artist Program. The recipient
of several awards through the Society of Connecticut
Crafts in metals and mixed media, her work is shown
throughout the northeast and is represented by the Jeffrey
Weiss Gallery in Bridgeport. Barber has a loyal following
of students in her Jewelry and Metalsmithing classes;
she also teaches techniques such as Lost Wax Casting
and Die Forming. |

Lady
McCrady, Painter & Sculptor
Featuring installations of urban painted steel, caramelized
sugar and canvas caught under construction, steaming
and flashing, in a universe parallel to the artist's
studio. McCrady is an installation artist-painter who
currently exhibits with Erickson Davis Gallery in Ivoryton.
She additionally curates/teaches a "lost art" crochet
ShiRReT technique. She holds an MFA from the City University
of New York - Hunter College, and BFA from Syracuse
University School of Art. She has been awarded grants
by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, the National
Endowment for the Arts and the New England Foundation
for the Arts. McCrady has had solo exhibitions have
been in New York, Tokyo and Paris. Her classes at the
Art Center range from Pastels and Mixed Media to the
popular "Obsessed Crocheters Wanted!" and "Stitch-n-Bitch."

Christopher
Uminga, Illustrator & Painter
Creates cartoon-like "monsters" that are exquisitely
recorded onto paper and canvas reminiscent of urban
graffiti, tattoo and comic art. He holds a BS in painting
from Southern Connecticut State University. He is a
professional comic book illustrator as well as co-owner
of the independent comic book company Fi$hStiX CoMics.
Uminga is an award-winning artist who exhibits throughout
Connecticut and has work in many private collections.
Uminga is a popular teacher among adults and children
at the Art Center, leading courses in Drawing, Watercolor,
Cartooning, Anime and more. |
